One of the big advantages we offer here at LUKS Barefoot is that you can choose your sole thickness depending on your preferred level of protection and contact with the surface underfoot. Spending long hours on your feet, whether at work or just in your free time, means thicker soles might be just the thing for you.
Thicker soles in Barefoot: why they may be right for you
A sole for all seasons, a sole for all reasons
One of the main benefits we offer here at LUKS Barefoot is the option for you to choose between different sole thicknesses. All our Barefoot shoes are available in three versions depending on your specific purpose:
4 mm sole
Our ultra-flexible variant, ideal if you like the most natural contact with the surface underfoot. If you’re an experienced Barefoot enthusiast or walk mostly on softer surfaces, this is probably the best thickness for you.
8 mm sole
This is our great “in-between” thickness: a happy medium offering good flexibility but also greater protection underfoot, so it’s ideal if you spend long hours on hard surfaces. It combines comfort with flexibility.
10 mm sole
This is our thickest sole offering greatest protection and shock absorption. It’s the perfect choice for those who need better protection on hard surfaces. If you’re on your feet all day or you’re walking on uneven terrain, this could be the best choice for you.
Despite the different thickness all soles remain flexible, allowing the foot to move naturally without restriction, and even through the 10 mm thick sole you’ll gently feel the unevenness of the terrain.
A teacher chose our Milagro boots on an 8-mm sole, and here’s her experience
My sister went for the 8-mm sole which has turned out to be the perfect choice for her work environment. Teaching is about being on your feet all day, long hours of standing and sometimes even running after energetic kids. The Milagro boots have given her the ideal combination of flexibility and support, preventing foot fatigue and keeping her feet comfortable all day long. Many Barefoot shoes have a problem with finding the balance between resistance and flexibility. If the soles are too soft, they may wear down quickly, and if they’re too rigid they can restrict movement of the foot inside the shoes. The Milagro boots handle this balance perfectly. The soles have kept their structure while remaining flexible and comfortable even after several weeks of everyday use on hard school floors.
The right sole thickness - why it’s important. You’ll have more energy after all day at work
Choosing the right sole thickness can be really important if you’re someone who spends most of the day on your feet:
- Long hours standing on hard floors - A thicker sole (8 mm or 10 mm) helps reduce foot fatigue and gives greater comfort while retaining its flexibility.
- Hard surfaces - School floors, concrete or tiles can be challenging for your feet. A thicker sole absorbs shocks, making a long working day a more pleasurable experience.
- Starting out with Barefoot – Beginning with a slightly thicker sole is easier if you’ve been used to conventional shoes; the sole is thicker but still lets your foot move naturally.
- All-day comfort – When you teach, walk or spend your day with children, the right sole thickness can significantly affect your foot health and increase your energy levels.
Cold feet? Not anymore!
We wear and test Barefoot shoes ourselves all day, and we know we’re right in saying that the 10 mm sole gives better insulation underfoot so you won’t feel cold even when you’re on your feet for long periods. Just the thing if you’re someone who gets cold feet or you just want to keep your feet warm.
Tread softer
The sole is made of two layers that complement each other:
- Upper cushioning and insulating layer made from a soft material for better shock absorption and insulation.
- Lower flexible hard-wearing layer - this wear-resistant layer lets you enjoy your shoes for many years without wearing them out.
